[Kpop Planet Story] 4 Songs That Are Perfect For The Year Of The Dragon

Seollal (Lunar New Year) is approaching, and we will be entering the Year of the Dragon in a few days. As we celebrate this major festival, let's spare a listen to 4 K-pop songs that are related to dragon to fill our new year with spirit and energy! Are you ready to fly high like a dragon in the new year?

1. TEMPEST- Dragon (2022)

As the title track in TEMPEST's third mini album "ON and ON", "Dragon" is a powerful trap-based dance pop that declares the members' ambition to fly high like a dragon and fearlessly move towards their dream amidst difficulties. The punchy rap lines and intense beat throughout the track vividly depicts the image of dragon flying up to the sky, and the choreography of the song also incorporates gestures and movements related to dragon, bringing out the masculine and energetic charm of the group.

2. iKON - Dragon (2022)

Apart from TEMPEST, iKON also has a song named "Dragon", which is a B-side track from their fourth mini album "FLASHBACK". The song cleverly embeds the Korean idiom "개천에서 용난다" (a dragon appears from a stream), which describes a person from a humble background overcoming hardships and finally becomes successful. The members compare their status with the idiom, singing that they are like dragons flying up to the sky, and no one can stop them from reaching success. This lively EDM track perfectly showcases the hip-hop image of iKON and is a perfect party song that can get everyone hyped.

3. aespa - Girls (2022)

"Girls" is the title track from aespa's second mini album of the same name. Although the theme of the song is not directly related to dragon, this upbeat EDM dance pop embodies the powerful and fearless image of dragon as the members sing their determination to overcome fear and obstacles to achieve their dreams with their AI partners Naevis. The backdrop of the music video also incorporates dragon, which accentuates the power of the song and matches with the girl crush concept of aespa.

4. NCT 127 - Kick It (2020)

Dragon is the symbol of kings in ancient China. NCT 127 drew inspiration from this idea and combined it with kung fu in "Kick It", the title track of their second full-length album "NCT #127 Neo Zone". The song pays homage to the legendary kung fu star Bruce Lee by showing the members' determination to break the rules and bring new changes to the world like Bruce Lee. Same as "Girls", the music video of "Kick It" also includes dragon in the set, highlighting the oriental and kung fu theme of the song.
