BLACKPINK, nominated for the British "BRIT Award"... The first K-pop girl group

BLACKPINK became the first K-pop female group to be nominated for the 2023 BRIT Awards, the UK's most prestigious popular music awards ceremony.

On the 12th (local time), the BRIT Awards announced through its official website and social media that BLACKPINK has been selected as the 'International Group of the Year' category this year.

Historically, the division has seen trophies dominated by contending names such as Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Foo Fighters and Green Day.

Prior to this, BTS in 2021 and 2022 was nominated as a candidate, but the award was not fired.

If BLACKPINK wins the award this year, it will be the first record for a K-pop group. This year, in this category, Drake and 21 Savage, who topped the US Billboard main album chart 'Billboard 200' with the joint album 'Her Loss', and Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit will compete for the trophy.

The 'BRIT Awards', which began in 1977 under the auspices of the British Music Industry Association, is known as the music award ceremony that represents Britain's pop failure. A panel of more than 1,000 people, consisting of radio and TV DJs and moderators, broadcasting company executives, record production company representatives, journalists, etc., has voted for the candidates.

This year's BRIT Awards will be held on February 12th at the O2 Arena in London, England. Earlier on February 5th, BTS will continue their challenge as candidates for the 65th Grammy Awards in three categories at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA. Attention will be paid to whether the K-pop group's record will be broken again in February.
