BLACKPINK, Rosé, and Lisa Make History At VMA's

Last September 7th, 2025, Rosé from BLACKPINK made history as she became the first K-pop artist to win at the VMA’s.

Rosé won ‘Song of The Year’ at the MTV Video Music Awards for her collaboration with Bruno Mars in the song “APT”, this victory wasn’t just a break through for other K-pop artists but also puts Rosé in the spotlight and gets her a level of recognition outside the Korean music industry.

That night Rosé was nominated in a total of eight categories, this already the most as every K-pop artist has ever made before, here the categories:

  • Song of the Year “APT” – Won
  • Video of the Year – Nominee
  • Best Collaboration, with Bruno Mars – Nominee
  • Best Pop “APT” – Nominee
  • Best Direction “APT” – Nominee
  • Best Art Direction “APT” – Nominee
  • Best Visual Effects “APT” – Nominee
  • Best K-pop “Toxic Till the End”- Nominee

In her speech, she expressed ‘I can not believe this. First of all, thanks to Bruno Mars for believing in me, this moment feels like a reward of all the hard work we had’ and then she spoke in Korean ‘BLACKPINK members, I won an award. Thank you all, always and I love you’ she finalized the speech with a bright smile.

While Rosé won as a solo, her member Lisa also won in the category of ‘Best K-pop’ with her song “Born Again” featured with Doja Cat and Raye and last but not least BLACKPINK took the trophy home with ‘Best Group’ category at the VMA’s.

The success of BLACKPINK in the global scene validates K-pop international power highlighting that K-pop artist can also be part of the competence and take the awards home. Hopefully this inspires other artist to try out the global market as a full target and bring more collaboration with artists form different genres all together.
