[Kpop Planet News] SEVENTEEN And TXT Receive RIAJ Platinum Certification In Japan
SEVENTEEN and TXT's new albums have received platinum certification from The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ)!
On November 10, RIAJ announced its new list of official certifications. SEVENTEEN's latest mini album "SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN" got triple platinum certification for over 750,000 units shipped in Japan. This makes SEVENTEEN the owner of two triple platinum and two million certified albums.
"SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN" not only broke SEVENTEEN's personal pre-order sales record, but also set a new first-week sales record in K-pop history with more than 5 million copies. The album even became the group's second album to enter No.2 on Billboard Top 200 following their previous release "FML", and secured top positions across music charts worldwide.
Meanwhile, TXT's new full-length album "The Name Chapter: FREEFALL" earned platinum certification for more than 250,000 units shipped in Japan, making it the group's second Korean album and fourth album overall to receive this distinction.
The album sold more than 2.25 million copies in its opening week, setting a new personal record for the group. It also made a strong debut on Billboard 200 at No.3 and is currently on its third consecutive weeks in the top 40 of the chart. The album also topped Oricon’s weekly album ranking in Japan within three days after its release, making TXT the only artist globally to hit the top of the chart following their previous mini album “The Name Chapter: Temptation” and second Japanese full-length album, “Sweet”.
According to the certification thresholds, albums will be awarded "gold" certification for over 100,000 units shipped in Japan, "platinum" for 250,000 units, "double platinum" for 500,000 units, "triple platinum" for 750,000 units, and 1,000,000 units for "million" certification.
With the immense global success of the two groups, both SEVENTEEN and TXT will be performing in 2023 MAMA Awards, which is set on November 28 and 29 at the Tokyo Dome. This will be the first time for a Korean music award ceremony to be held at the largest indoor stadium in Japan.
