[Kpop Planet News] BTS "Spring Day" Tops US iTunes Charts After All Members Enlist For Military

BTS's "Spring Day" has made a glorious return to the iTunes Charts!

As RM, V, Jimin and Jungkook followed their older teammates to embark on military service on December 11 and 12, all seven BTS members are now enlisted. However, the group's global popularity still remains as their 2017 hit "Spring Day" soared to No.1 on iTune charts in the US.

This is a historical record as it surpassed Mariah Carey's festive legend "All I Want For Christmas Is You", which has dominated the US chart every December for 29 years since its release in 1994.

Apart from the US, "Spring Day" also dominated iTune charts in seven other major music markets including Australia, Canada, Brazil, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, testifying the song and BTS's enduring fame internationally.

"Spring Day" is one of the B-side tracks from BTS's 2017 3rd full-length repackage album "You Never Walk Alone". The song expresses the pain of losing a friend and longing towards the friend, which resonates perfectly with ARMY's current state of mind as they are enduring the period of separation with BTS.

Upon the announcement of the news, ARMY globally immediately shared the glory on social media. Many also encouraged fellow ARMY to stream the song on other music platforms including Spotify to show their love and support to BTS.

ARMY's actions also caught attention from Korean media Newsen, as it called ARMY "gomooshin" (rubber shoes), a Korean term that refers to "military wives" who are waiting on their lovers in the military. When the lover return, the wives are called "kkotshin" (flower shoes).

Many ARMY expressed pride for being addressed with this term, saying that they are joyfully living in their "military wives era" and are looking forward to their "kkotshin" era.

Jin and J-Hope will be returning in 2024 and the remaining five members are expected to complete their service by June 2025. Big Hit Music previously expressed hope to resume BTS's group activity in 2025 when all the members are discharged.

Congratulations to BTS for recharting on iTunes and let's hope for the members' safe and healthy return from their military service!
