[Kpop Planet News] BTS Jungkook Snatches Prizes At 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards

BTS' "golden maknae" Jungkook has triumphed and made history on the international music realm again!

On November 5, the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) announced on its official website that Jungkook won the "Best K-pop" category. The BTS member also clinched the "Best Song" award with his chart-topping hit "Seven (feat. Latto)". The song dominated music chart both in home and aboard by topping major Korean music streaming platform Melon, Billboard Global 200 and entering no.3 on the British Official Singles Chart.

This made Jungkook the first Korean solo artist to win two awards at the EMAs. He previously also set a new record for the number of nominations received by a K-pop solo artist at the EMAs by getting nominations in three categories including "Biggest Fans".

Meanwhile, Jungkook's label mate TXT won the "Best Push Artist" award in recognition of their meteoric rise in fame and significant contribution to the international music industry in recent years.

Upon the announcement of the award results, ARMY across the world rejoiced in Jungkook's achievements. Many shared the news on social media to celebrate his incredible talents and dedication in music, saying that they are incredibly proud of Jungkook.

The EMAs was originally set to be held last Sunday in Paris, and Jungkook confirmed that he would be performing at the ceremony. However, the event was canceled “out of an abundance of caution” due to the on-going Israel-Hamas conflict.

Two days before the EMAs, Jungkook dropped his debut full-length solo album "GOLDEN". The album has already broken Hanteo album sales record for K-pop soloists on its first day of release by selling over 2 million copies within a day. The number was even able to break the highest first-week sales record of any solo album in Hanteo history.

Apart from the setting new album sales record, "GOLDEN" also swept music charts globally by topping the iTunes' Top Albums chart in 77 countries and recorded nearly 40 million streams on Spotify, making it the K-pop solo artist's album with the highest first-day stream counts on the platform.

Moreover, eight of the songs in the album landed top 30 on Spotify's Daily Top Song Global chart, with "Seven (feat. Latto)" claiming the top spot, followed by the title track "Standing Next to You". The newly released track soared at no.1 in 71 countries on the iTunes' Top Song chart, and the music video has recorded over 20 million views within three days of its release.

Congratulations to Jungkook for the awards and record-high album sales and streaming counts. Stay tuned for more news on Jungkook!
