[Kpop Planet News] BLACKPINK's Jennie To Release New Solo Album

BLACKPINK's Jennie revealed that she is working on a new solo album!

According to Jennie's interview with the October 2023 issue of Harper's Bazzar Korea, the BLACKPINK member said that she is "making a song that's by Jennie, the most Jennie and something unique that is only Jennie's."

This album will be Jennie's first album in five years following her debut single "Solo," which was released in November 2018. The song was a huge success in both home and abroad, that it was the first song from a K-pop female soloist to have recorded 300 million streams in 2021. Earlier this year in March, the song's music video even surpassed the 900-million-view milestone on YouTube.

Apart from "Solo," Jennie has also unveiled another solo song "You & Me (Moonlight)," which she started performing on BLACKPINK's "Born Pink" world tour since last year. However, the track has not been officially released.

Jennie has also worked on several solo projects recently. She tried out acting in the HBO series The Idol, and collaborated with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp on the drama's soundtrack "One Of The Girls."

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's contract renewal is still in limbo. While several local media outlets revealed that Jennie, Jisoo, and Lisa will not be renewing their contracts, leaving Rosé the only member to stay in YG Entertainment.

On September 25, News1 reported that Jennie and Jisoo have established their own agencies for managing individual activities, and the members are still discussing group activities with YG.

In response to all these reports, YG stated that the members' contract renewal has yet to be confirmed and is still under discussion. The uncertainty of the group's contract renewal made YG's shares plunged 13.3% last week.

BLACKPINK has recently completed their "Born Pink" world tour with two finale concerts on September 16 and 17 at Gocheok Sky Dome. Many K-pop idols and actors such as aespa and Kim Go-eun attended the show. At the last day of the concert, the members expressed gratitude to their fans for their continuous love and support, while none of them have revealed any future plans.
