[Kpop Planet News] NewJeans Releases Worlds 2023 Anthem "GODS"

NewJeans has made another breakthrough in their music career by singing the anthem of this year's League of Legends World Championship (Worlds 2023)!

On October 4, Riot Games released the music video of "GODS", the anthem of the upcoming Worlds 2023, which will be held in Korea from October 10 to November 19. Not only is the song the first Worlds anthem sung by a K-pop act, it also marks the 10th anniversary of the anthems of the annual e-sports tournament.

The animated music video depicts the story of famous LoL player Deft (Kim Hyuk Kyu), illustrating how he discovers LoL in high school, and overcomes challenges with his teammates along the road to victory in Worlds 2022. The MV shows the final match between DRX and T1 in the previous competiton towards the end, featuring legendary e-sports athlete Faker (Lee Sang Hyeok), who recently received gold medal in the LoL competition in the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The collaboration between Riot Games and NewJeans was first announced in September. The members expressed excitement towards the song, saying that it was fun to try out new genre and to present a song that incorporates the unique colors of both NewJeans and LoL. They also hope to bring a new sense of empowerment through the song.

Riot Games also welcomes the collaboration, believing that with this year's Worlds takes place in Korea and NewJeans experiencing meteoric rise, the partnership is a true cultural celebration. The company also points out that the song powerfully conveys the grind and glory that awaits the players in the upcoming matches by beautifully juxtaposing the epic music and the powerful vocals of the members.

Meanwhile, NewJeans latest mini album "Get Up" continues to make history on Billboard. The album topped the chart when it was released in July, and has remained within top 50 in Billboard 200 for nine consecutive weeks, making NewJeans the first-ever female K-pop act to achieve so. The impressive results once again confirm NewJean's popularity as an aspiring 4th generation supernova.
