In this increasingly competitive world of K-pop, it is very challenging for K-pop groups to achieve global success, not to mention those coming from small companies. However, BTS is one of the most remarkable exceptions.

Since their debut in 2013, BTS have released numerous hits that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries and touch the hearts of many across the world, making them evolved from underdog boy groups that practiced in a tiny basement room to global sensation that continuously make history in the music industry internationally. 

As RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook started their military service earlier this week, all BTS members are finally enlisted, and ARMY have to wait until the second half of 2025 to see the members coming back together as a team again.

To show their love towards BTS, many ARMY have been streaming BTS songs on various music platforms these few days, making some of their title tracks such as "Spring Day" and "No More Dream" returned to iTunes music chart these few days. However, apart from title tracks, BTS also have many worth-listening B-side tracks.

Let's listen to 8 B-side tracks with different styles from BTS as we patiently wait for their return! 

1. Paldogangsan (2013)

"Paldogangsan" is a B-side track from BTS's first mini album "O!RUL8,2?", which is a Hip-Hop track that showcases the beauty and diversity of the Korean language. Since BTS's members are from different parts of Korea, they rap in the satoori (dialect) of their respective regions (Kyeongsang and Jeolla) and battle with each other, which make it fun to listen to. This song is perfect for learning dialects in Korea! 

2. Jump (2014)

BTS's earlier release often talks about themselves chasing their dreams as teenagers, and "Jump" from their second mini album "Skool Luv Affair" is one of the tracks that share this theme. This track illustrates the members' desire to go back in time when they dreamed of becoming a hero, and now they are ready to become new generation hero on stage. It truly demonstrates BTS's boyish and energetic charms back as a rookie group back in their early days.

3. Silver Spoon (2015)

BTS often address social issues in their discography. "Silver Spoon" from their fourth mini album "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2" sarcastically delve into the issue of social inequality in modern Korean society, singing how hard it is for poor people to climb up the social ladder and achieve success no matter how hard they work. This song resonates with millions both inside and outside of Korea who are being oppressed by the unjust socioeconomic hierarchy. 

4. Lost (2016)

Apart from criticizing societal problems, many of BTS's songs also revolve around the pain and struggle that young people are facing, including "Lost" from their second full album "Wings". This song portrays the common feeling of being lost, frustrated and confused while trying to find a clear path in life. It strikes a chord with many youngsters who are on their way to figure out their purpose and direction in life. 

5. Not Today (2017)

Included in "You Never Walk Alone", the repackaged version of "Wings", "Not Today" is another track that touch upon social issues. However, this song sounds much more aggressive than "Silver Spoon" as it is about directly fighting against the corrupted and unjust authority, and encourage people not to give up and stay hopeful in bringing changes.The powerful hip-hop and moombahton beat and intense synths accentuate the anger and rebellious feeling of the song, bringing out a wild side of BTS.

6. Answer: Love Myself (2018)

As the last song in BTS's third Korea compilation album "Love Yourself: Answer", "Answer: Love Myself" is the ending song for their "Love Yourself" trilogy. This mid-tempo track encourages listeners to love and accept themselves for who they are, even though they know it is difficult. It also reminds people to always be kind to themselves and accept their flaws as all these things have shaped who they are today. The touching lyrics together with the beautiful melody of this song has comforted the soul of many even until today. 

7. Dionysus (2019)

Included in BTS's sixth mini album "MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA", "Dionysus" cleverly draws inspiration from the Greek god of wine and wine making Dionysus. The members compare the feeling of getting drunk to creating music, where they sing that they are getting "drunk" on art as the process of making music gives them a buzz. The members look so majestic as they wore toga-inspired cape in the live performances! 

8. Born Singer (2022)

How can we miss this legendary song that would make a true ARMY break down into tears? "Born Singer" is an adapted version of J. Cole's "Born Sinner". While it was unofficially released on July 2013 to celebrate BTS's one month of debut, the song was remastered and finally released officially in their first anthology album "Proof" as the first track of the album. "Born Singer" reveals the members' stories of trying to make it in the music industry and their excitement of becoming a singer. The fact that this song was finally included in BTS's album after seven years just means so much to ARMY!
