[Kpop Planet News] BTS Jin "Abyss" Tops iTunes Charts In 23 Countries

BTS Jin's self-composed song "Abyss" is dominating iTunes charts globally!

"Abyss" has recently clinched No.1 on the iTunes 'Top Songs' chart in 23 countries, including Portugal, Papua New Guinea, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and more. 

The song was first released in December 2020 two hours before Jin's 28th birthday and was previously only available on SoundCloud and YouTube. The track was officially released on all streaming platforms in October 2022, and it immediately ranked high on various charts worldwide, including "Worldwide Chart", "iTunes U.S. Chart", and "iTunes Europe Chart". Now that the song has re-charted on iTunes proves the ongoing popularity of the song and Jin.

'Abyss' is an emotional mid-tempo track that features a lyrical melody, poetic lyrics, as well as Jin's soulful and pure voice, expressing his emotions sincerely and capturing his feelings during a period of burnout after becoming the first Korean act to win the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart with BTS's "Dynamite".

The song was accompanied by a blog post explaining the reason behind the song when it was released, which conveys Jin's honest perspective, and his hope to offer comfort and support to people who found themselves in similar situations.

"There are so many people who love music more than I do and are better at it than I am, and I thought whether I really deserved all the happiness and congratulations. And the deeper I went into my thoughts, the more I felt that I just wanted to let everything go because it hurt me," wrote Jin.

Apart from receiving lots of love from ARMY, "Abyss" was widely praised within the entertainment industry. Entertainment Weekly commented that the song had acknowledged Jin's innate musical talent, and Teen Vogue even selected it as one of the top moments in K-pop in 2020 in recognition of its explosive reaction across the world.

Meanwhile, Jin has been selected as the top star expected to make the most prominent impact in 2024 from The Idol Chart survey. The idol chart conducted a survey from January 1st to January 7th, asking, "Which star do you think will have the most remarkable activities in the new year, 2024?" According to the voting results, Jin secured the first place with 69,376 votes out of a total of 167,140 votes (approximately 42% of the votes), reflecting his exceptional popularity.

Proving strong global popularity and influence even he is currently on military service, expectations are high for Jin's diverse activities as a solo artist after his military discharge.
