[Kpop Planet News] SEVENTEEN Snatches Album Of The Year At MAMA 2023
SEVENTEEN finally made it to the top at MAMA!
The 2023 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA 2023) was successfully held on November 28 and 29 at Tokyo Dome. The two-day prestigious K-pop award ceremony celebrated the achievements of K-pop artists this year, and featured various wonderful performances, showcasing the immense popularity of K-pop globally.
On the second day of the ceremony, SEVENTEEN clinched the "Album Of The Year" award (Grand Prize) in recognition of the record-high sales of "FML" and "SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN", the two mini albums they released this year. The two albums together have achieved over 10 million copies of sales. This is the first time for SEVENTEEN to receive this award since their debut in 2015.
After being announced as the recipient of the Grand Prize, the members took the stage to deliver acceptance speech. The group's leader S.Coups, who is currently on hiatus due to a knee injury, made a surprise appearance by joining his teammates to receive the honor.
He expressed gratitude to the fandom CARAT, saying, "I often thought, bearing the name SEVENTEEN and working as an idol, will we ever be able to receive this award? But thanks to our fans, CARAT, who made us received this award, I'm truly thankful."
The group's in-house producer Woozi then shared his thoughts, saying, "It feels like it took a long time to get here. We received a lot of criticism from the beginning. We heard comments like 'There are too many of you, it won't work.' I promise that we will continue to work hard to present even better music to you (CARAT) until the end."
Seungkwan finally made an emotional speech by showing his respect and support to fellow K-pop artists and mentioning his late friend Moon Bin from ASTRO, who passed away in April. "I want to say that all the artists here are so great, and I learn a lot from them" "This (being an idol) is not an easy occupation, but let’s cheer for each other and go on".
He then continued by expressing his gratitude to Moon Bin, while trying to hold back his tears. "I don’t know if I can say this but...There have been many things going on this year...and to my friend Binnie, who have always loved and supported our music, I want to say thank you and I love you.”
Seungkwan's genuine and moving speech touched the heart of CARAT and K-pop fans, and many shared his speech on social media to show their love and support to him and SEVENTEEN.
Seungkwan mentioned Moonbin and thanked him for supporting the group. 🥺

SEVENTEEN also delivered an electrifying performance of "God Of Music" and "Super", the title tracks of the two albums they released this year, during the ceremony, throwing the audiences into a frenzy.
Right after joining MAMA, SEVENTEEN will continue with the Japanese dome leg of their "Follow" tour today, starting from three shows in Nagoya, followed by three concerts in Osaka and two in Fukuoka next month.
Meanwhile, the group's youngest member Dino's first solo mixtape "Wait" has claimed top spot on iTunes song charts in 22 countries and regions, including Chile, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore since its release on November 27.
